Reshaping the way people buy and sell homes with a custom social platform

Abodely envisioned a fresh and more intimate approach to the real estate market. The off-market property platform aimed to simplify the process, enhance efficiency and make buying and selling homes more enjoyable. By facilitating direct connections between buyers and sellers, it sought to reduce the pressures and costs typically associated with traditional real estate transactions. Before taking this innovative idea to market, Abodely’s founder, Tom, wanted to validate and refine the concept with real end-users and gather feedback that would shape the app’s functionality. A team of experts from the Village was assembled that could take the concept all the way from discovery to prototype to market.

Chec-In, an innovative dating startup, aims to transform the dating scene by encouraging real-world interactions at shared venues. Their approach, centred on creating deeper connections through spontaneous shared experiences, challenges the traditional online dating model. Charlotte, the founder of Chec-In, comes from a non-tech background and was eager to explore the best way to take the product to market. Developing a MVP would enable her to validate the idea and captivate potential users by demonstrating its unique approach in fostering genuine, real-world connections.

Promoting mental fitness with Gotcha4Life’s Mental Fitness Gym

Gotcha4Life is a leading not-for-profit organisation with a powerful vision: a suicide-free world where nobody worries alone. The aim was to create a free online platform that provides the tools and resources needed to improve mental wellbeing, manage emotions and help Australians cope with the ups and downs of life. Millions of dollars had been committed in advertising spend to promote the launch ahead of a tight deadline that coincided with Mental Health Week. We were approached by the Program Manager to rapidly spin up a team to deliver the Mental Fitness Gym in time for the highly-anticipated launch.

Pioneering a customer-centric approach for Woolworths’ Salesforce solutions

Adopting a predominantly technology-first approach had led to Woolworths facing challenges with internal Salesforce platforms. Although the powerful CRM had been successfully trialled to solve core manual processes and was further integrated into business units, a lack of focus on customer/user experience led to complexities for platform users. Recognising a need for a more user-centric approach, a team of UX/CX specialists was required to align strategies with user needs. The goal was to work alongside Woolworths’ Salesforce implementation partners to create intuitive solutions that aligned more closely with daily workflows and simplified processes.

Boosting student engagement with a virtual race across Australia

Inspired by research demonstrating that increased physical activity can improve learning outcomes, a NSW teacher created a challenge for students. The concept was straightforward: students’ runs would be visually represented on a virtual map as they ‘Raced Around Australia’. Emily’s innovative idea quickly captivated students and teachers, gaining traction not just in Australia but around the globe. However, the challenge soon faced logistical issues as the map required an individual to manually add daily updates. The School Sports Unit in the Department of Education wanted to build a scalable digital solution that was easy to administer and integrate with existing school administration systems.

Crafting a powerful tool to support QLD’s endangered species.

Queensland is home to 85% of Australia’s mammals, 72% of birds, and just over 50% of its reptiles and frogs. With more than 1,000 species on the threatened list and at risk of extinction, CSIRO and QLD’s Department of Education, Science and Innovation recognised the urgent need to utilise a large and complex set of data to inform their investment decisions in endangered species conservation. A diverse team of specialists was required to define, design, and develop a solution within their Azure ecosystem that could run various analytical scenarios, visualise results, and enable effective comparison of outputs. The project involved collaborating with diverse stakeholders to develop an internal MVP and launch a public platform that presents critical conservation information effectively and accessibly.

AI-Powered Aerial Object Detection

This project applied deep learning–based object detection to aerial imagery captured by drones. The system was designed to identify multiple object categories under different environmental conditions, with an emphasis on adaptability to new contexts such as forests, wetlands, and urban areas. The solution demonstrated how AI can support climate resilience by monitoring deforestation, tracking wildlife activity, detecting illegal dumping, or identifying flood risks, all from the sky, in real time.

Problem

Monitoring large areas from above requires identifying and tracking objects accurately in dynamic environments. From mapping forests to detecting environmental hazards, aerial surveillance is a critical tool, but translating raw drone footage into actionable insights demands advanced computer vision. The challenge lies in building a system that can detect, classify, and track objects in real time, even with varied landscapes, lighting, and movement.

Solution

We developed a computer vision pipeline that enabled drones equipped with cameras to perform live object detection and recognition. This included: Training models to distinguish objects of interest from surrounding noise. Optimising detection accuracy with iterative bounding-box adjustments and classification rules. Deploying the solution on drones for real-time aerial monitoring and data capture.
